The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) of Brazil, with the support of the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG), will host, on August 19, 2021, at 15:00 (CET), the webinar “Brazil’s association to CERN: Challenges and Opportunities”.
Discussions around the resumption of negotiations for Brazil’s accession to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), which began in 2010, gained new momentum in June 2019, following the visit by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) to the international organization and subsequent presentation of a schedule of procedures and internal actions to the President of the Republic, which would allow the country to join the organization as an associate Member-State.
This presents the possibility of Brazil’s to join one of the largest research centers and laboratories in high energy physics and particle physics in the world, whose access to researchers and companies enables the development of technologies applied to new materials, particularly useful for industry 4.0, aerospace, emerging technologies, health isotopes, among others. Areas that contribute to economic growth through increases in productivity and technological innovation, as well as through the creation or expansion of markets and qualified jobs.
In this regard, the webinar aims at fostering the debate of various Brazilian stakeholders concerning the benefits and challenges of associating Brazil with CERN.
